What is the SEC Food Fight?

March 1-31, 2026

For ONE month, universities of the SEC compete to help raise food, funds, and hygiene items to fight campus food insecurity.

Our Goal: 45,000 Points!

1 Point = 1 Item or $1

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I donate expired food?

Yes! Due to food safety processes, like the canning process, some foods are still good post-best-by date. Most best-by dates are dependent on preference, not safety.

Are homemade items accepted?

No, the 12th Can only accepts pre-packaged, sealed and clearly labeled food and hygiene items.

How do I ensure my organization gets credit?

The 12th Can will sort and calculate donation itemss and report them back to donors. We also highly encourage taking a group picture at the donation time and sharing it!

Are donations tax-deductible?

Yes, depending on how you donate.

Tax-deductible options:
Cash/check
Drop off at pantry
Mail to: 125 John J Koldus Building, 1236 TAMU, Ms 920

Non-tax-deductible options:
Marketplace

How are points calculated?

1 item or $1 = 1 point

An item counts as something individually wrapped, for example: 1 can = 1 point, a 12-pack of ramen = 12 points, 1 toothbrush = 1 point.

Why donate hygiene items if you’re a food pantry?

The 12th Can takes a holistic approach to fighting food insecurity. This includes household and hygiene items that help make food more accessible and consumption safer, such as a can-opener.
