External Volunteers – The 12th Can

Welcome!

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with The 12th Can! While our organization is completely student-led, we rely heavily on the support of our members—including individual students, campus organizations, staff, and faculty —to help us eliminate food insecurity at Texas A&M.

Who can volunteer?

External volunteering opportunities are strictly reserved for Texas A&M University registered students, staff, and faculty. We are currently unable to provide volunteering opportunities to those outside of the Texas A&M system.

  • Individual Volunteers: Any Texas A&M student, faculty, or staff looking to give back.
  • Student Organizations & Greek Life: Ideal for organizations fulfilling group service requirements.
  • Offices, Departments, & Divisions:  Texas A&M faculty or staff interested in team bonding, service opportunities, or a service-oriented experience.

Age & Compliance Threshold (18+): All participating group members must be at least 18 years of age. This restriction ensures strict compliance with university youth program safety protocols.

  • University Rule 24.01.06.M1 (Campus Programs for Minors) can be found here!

Typical Tasks

  • Stocking & Inventory: Unloading bulk food deliveries, unboxing items, checking expiration dates, and sorting non-perishables.
  • Pantry Organization: Keeping shelves clean, organized, and properly labeled for our clients.

The 12th Can welcomes volunteers of all backgrounds and abilities. If you require any accommodations to fully participate in volunteering with us, please reach out to the Volunteer Systems Director at 12thcan.volunteers@gmail.com ahead of time so we can coordinate to ensure your experience is both rewarding and accessible.

Volunteer Requirements & Dress Code

*Important Volunteer Policies*

  • Dress Code:  Wear comfortable, casual clothes that you don’t mind getting a little dusty. Closed-toe shoes are highly recommended for personal safety while working with pantry inventory. Please ensure all attire is practical, comfortable, and appropriate for a campus-affiliated volunteer environment.
  • Shift Commitment: Please ensure you can stay for the entire duration of your registered shift.
  • Punctuality: Arrive 5–10 minutes early to check in and receive your volunteering instructions.

Policy Changes & Updates: All volunteer policies, safety guidelines, and operational procedures are subject to change at any time. As this is an evolving process, policies may be edited or updated periodically to maintain safety standards and support pantry operations.

How to Sign Up!

We are excited to have you join us! All volunteer registrations, including individual shifts and group reservations, are processed through the Aggieland Serves platform.
